TAPS

Posted by Stan Harrington

The sounding of "TAPS" always makes me sad, but at the same it makes me pause and reflect upon the past and the meaning behind the music. We have all heard the notes of "TAPS" played on the trumpet, I have read the actual words to TAPS but until now, I have never heard TAPS played in it's entirety except for one time at the Marines Barracks #1, Washington D.C.

Quite, by accident, I found it recently, it is a beautiful piece of music played by a young lady that plays the piece precisely and beautifully.

WOW...she is amazing...your grandson used to play this on his trombone...and the other on his sax...an amazing song and not an easy one to play...

When I would visit people on base at Fort Carson, they would play it every day that a soldier died around 9 or 10 pm. I was headed to the car one time when it started. All the soldiers outside stood at attention in front of their home until the song was done.

Navy ships always plays TAPS at 2200 with lights out, however it is the first verse which is also all that is normally played at military or veterans funerals. Regardless of how many times or which version is played, it causes one to pause and reflect ~ which is a good thing.
