"Tokyo Rose"

Posted by Stan Harrington

"Tokyo Rose" was most likely the most listened to disc jockey in the history of radio. During World War II she would make propaganda announcements from Japan several times each day. Her listening audience was the American military men and women serving in the Pacific. Her show was very popular and most construed it as propaganda, however, she also had the best selection of music in comparison to the Armed forces Radio Network. If you have every watched an movie of World War II, you have no doubt also heard her broadcasts in the background. Following the war, she was tried and sentenced to prison. President Gerald Ford, who had served in the Pacific Theatre pardoned her during his Presidency. Born as American Japanese, she was forced to stay in Japan just prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Controversy still exists today as to whether she was supporting the American military or Japan. You can get onto the www. and find a lot of her original radio broadcasts.

The reason that "Tokyo Rose" comes to mind at this time is that the other night a friend and I was watching the movie, "Flags of Our Fathers". During the movie, I pointed out the radio broadcast of Tokyo Rose. During World War II, the Japanese wanted a way to demoralize the American forces. Psychological warfare experts developed a message they felt would work.

The demoralizing message always contained three key points:

1. Your President Is Lying to You.

2. This War Is Illegal!

3. You Cannot Win the War?

Does this sound familiar to you?

It should, because today we are being bombarded by:

Tokyo Hillary, Tokyo Harry, Tokyo Teddy, Tokyo Nancy, Tokyo Kerry, Tokyo Edwards, Tokyo Murtha, Tokyo Dean, Tokyo Jimmy Carter, etc.

They have picked up on the same demoralizing message and are broadcasting via Tokyo CNN, Tokyo ABC, Tokyo CBS, Tokyo NBC to our troops and their families. The only difference is that they claim to support our troops before they demoralize them. As "Tokyo Rose" always commented in your broadcast, she told the troops that she was on their side, too.

If You Support Our Troops, You Then Support The War On Terrorism, it is one in the same.

I chose not to think about this topic...it is depressing and makes me wonder who we really can trust...In my opinion there are many fighting every day for the better of our country. Our troops deserve support...but they also chose to enlist...just as the doctor who contacts hepatitis chose his job...or the bar tender and lung health...coal miners and black lung...I support the war on terrorism, but I do not think they are fighting in the right country.
According to a source who works for immigration security I found it interesting how many of them "fled to our country" before we realized they were not our friends. There are so many of them here our government is not able to keep track of them all and is hoping they will be dumb and get caught trying to run away through airport security.and unless they are wearing a water bra...they will get away...sounds like tax payer dollars doing their job. But my best friend gets paid well to "protect and serve" our country.

The way I see it is that we have two options in the War on Terrorism.
Option 1: We can encnounter the enemy on foreign soil and fightthem there, Irag, Pakistan, Afganistan, Iran and Syeria, allowiong ourmilitary to do what they do best and get paid for.
Option 2: We can encounter the enemy once they get to the U.S., in our streets utilizing our City Police, State Police, and National Guard. We can go through another 9/11 or have some idiot walk into Diamond Mall with a bomb strapped to them.
Either option is available.

In the event you are wondering, why fighting terrorism within the U.S. is the responsibility of local police and the National Guard. The use of our military within the U.S. is illegal, unless a state of martial law is declared, believe me. You do not want to be subject to martial law.

I don't want them here, thats for sure and I think we should finish what we started over there.
I have heard the radio show in movies, the most memorable on was in MASH the other night. I don't know if was really Tokyo Rose. Something the MASH crew helped with was misconstrued by the "propaganda" radio show.
I often have a hard time believing the media. I am going to go do more research on Tokyo Rose.

Nice blog Stan. Hua!
Shana-in a Iraq is preferrable to Iowa, Illinois, Colorado, Utah or even Alaska. The war on terror is something we could never have visualized. It came to us and now we have no choice to wage it. We can wait for it come at us or we can go on the offensive and take them on on their turf. Proactive or Reactive. This war knows no borders(the terrorists don't care about such things), this war has an enemy that not readily id'ed but if we are alert-we can spot them-they are the ones attacking us.
