Pause To Reflect

Posted by Stan Harrington

Today, the first day of the year, I pause to reflect on the two true loves of my life, my family and my country. Within a few days, we will have a change of the leadership of a great country, our America. This change was not brought about by cannon fire but by an orderly electoral process as envisioned by the founders of our great nation.

I thank, President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush for their past eight years of dedicated service to our country. President Bush and Mrs. Bush restored the "peoples house", not in fancy furnishings and remodeling, but in prestige, respect, and honor. President Bush faced the greatest crisis our nation has seen on our home soil, through his leadership and dedication many attacks similar to 9/11 have been diverted. History will be much kinder to President Bush than the news media and some Congressional leaders have been in the past. Their daughters are also to be commended. They have chosen to stay our of the spot light and lead semi normal lives. When their daughter, Jenna chose to be married, she could have chosen a lavish wedding at the White House but instead chose to be wedded at their home in Texas. The leadership of both President Bush and his father, Past President Bush, are to be respected in their roles as Commander In Chief.

Within a few days, a new President, will take the Oath of Office, it is my hope that he will use President Bush as a role model and stand by his principles regardless of the political consequences of his actions, as he represents each one of us.

Although, I was in the "movie business" at the basement level of the industry for many years,
on this first day of the year, I am posting my "first video". Perhaps, it will give you a few moments of "Pause to Reflect".

Started my truck this morning at 0800 to warm up before I made a trip into the village. At 0830 the temperature was minus -21 degrees. Temperature in Anchor River valley, 1/4 mile from home was minus 24 and at the Anchor River Inn, 1/2 mile from home the temps warmed up to a balmy minus 21 degrees. Returned home and will not leave again, my thoughts turn to the warm deserts of Arizona!

Nice video, you should become a photographer!
We froze at the lake and decided to come straight home. We made it home safely!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Not even going to put you on a guilt trip, but I guess you must have taken the other route to Anchorage from Homer, you know the one that does not go through Anchor Point! Thought you might come out today, you lasted two days longer than I would have. It is a shame that the weather turned so cold for our wilderness trek. I would guess it hindered most of you outdoor activities. Had yours and the Buffs New Year gifts made up for you, guess I will have to mail them now. I also have a very large pair of boots here, my name is on the boots but I think they must belong to the Bull Buff, remember those that you were going to take back to Anchorage with you? Do you feel guilty yet? Don't, because I can fully understand and appreciate the desire to hunker down in a warm home and prepare for the new week and getting things back to normal. Happy New Year To All!

We will have a hard time stirring the guilt in, although, we did make two stops on our way out;
Picked up a pkg for Aunt K and stopped at the "head" Buffalo's for another box. If we had undone the packed puzzle (that included us at that point) it would have take a full day to figure the puzzle out again. It wasn't a slide puzzle, either, considering there was little room to "slide". Don't take it too personal that we didn't stop anywhere else. Social wasn't a word to describe our exhausted moods. That, and we were being chased by a chubucabra eating pickles.
Sorry we missed you. Oh, the guilt!

Wanda says, "Hey", by the way...
